Japanese car maker Nissan has warned there will be “serious implications” for Britain’s manufacturing industry if the UK fails to secure a trade deal with the European Union.
It said it was still waiting for clarity on what the future trading relationship would look like and has urged UK and EU negotiators to “work collaboratively towards an orderly balanced Brexit that will continue to encourage mutually beneficial trade”.
Nissan built almost a third of Britain’s 1.67 million cars last year. It employs about 8,000 people in Sunderland and its supply chain supports tens of thousands more jobs.
